Acne Home Remedy
An acne home remedy is an alternative way to treat acne without medications or skin care products. This types of natural acne cures should include not only a plan to treat breakouts, but also the underlying skin problem which is the production of excess sebum and the resulting bacteria.
Homemade remedies for acne should be chosen as part of an overall routine and include a cleanser or toner (astringent) to act as an antiseptic to kill bacteria and a cream to apply directly to affected areas. An acne home remedy can be made using easy to obtain compounds and natural substances but it is important to note that a homemade acne solution may not be as effective in treating severe or advanced forms of acne as some chemical products.
Controlling Excess Sebum
Sebum, the oil in the skin produced by the sebaceous glands allows bacteria to form as it accumulates on the skin. This is perhaps the single biggest cause of acne breakouts on the skin. An acne home remedy program that seeks to reduce the amount of sebum is a must in effectively treating your acne. A natural acne remedy for this is to combine 3 drops of lavender, cypress, lemongrass, and eucalyptus essential oils to 1-2 tablespoons of almond oil and applying them lightly to the face, neck and back (do not aggressively rub in). These oils act as a natural pH balancer and can help to maintain the oil (sebum) levels in skin.
Natural Acne Cleanser
Keeping the skin clean without drying it out is essential in trying to remove acne. A deep cleaner such as a toner or cleanser should be used twice a day to keep bacteria from building up. Oils such as lavender and lemon can be added to water and used as a mild natural astringent. Lemon juice and witch hazel can also be added to distilled water for an effective cleanser and toner.
Another natural acne antibiotic treatment can be found in yarrow, which is a plant extract. This can both kill the bacteria that causes acne and help to balance sebum production in the skin. Add a couple of teaspoons of yarrow to hot water and add eucalyptus and/or tea tree essential oil. Use a cotton ball for application. This solution can be refrigerated as well to add stimulation to the skin.
Natural Acne Facial Masks
Removing blackheads can be achieved with a fruit based acne home remedy such as a facial mask. For this solution, it is recommended that white facial clay be used as a base if available (alternatively, you can use glycerin, baking soda). Add 3 tablespoons of apple, pineapple and grape juice to the mask foundation and apply to the face. Wash off with warm water and then use a cleanser or toner to remove left over debris.
Treating Acne Blemishes Directly
Tea tree oil has long been known as an effective acne home remedy. Some studies have shown that it can be as effective as benzoyl peroxide as a pimples treatment and overall treatment for curing acne. Tea tree oil has powerful antibacterial and antiseptic qualities and can be directly applied using the following approach. Using a couple tablespoons of aloe juice (this may need to be purchased), add 3 drops each of teat tree, thyme, lavender and eucalyptus essential oils. Mix the solution well and dab directly onto blemishes for an excellent acne skin treatment.
