Facial Skin Care Treatment

Facial skin is perhaps the part of the body that is most affected by the effects of the sun, aging, toxins and pollutants. The effects of wearing makeup can also adversely affect the skin. Facial skin care treatment is available in many forms, from the use of over the counter face skin care products to advance therapies such as skin peels and laser treatment.

Over the Counter facial skin treatment consists of common products such as mud or clay facial masks, skin care cleansing, astringents and skin care cream and moisturizers. Combining these products into a facial skin care treatment regimen can assist in cleaning, detoxifying and repairing the damage done to facial skin. Using a natural skin care product can also help you avoid the effects of harsh chemicals and irritants found in common skin care products.

Below are advanced facial skin care treatments. These are usually performed by a skin care professional or licensed dermatologist and can have a dramatic impact on the appearance of facial skin by removing both the signs of aging and damage caused by the sun and skin diseases.

Facial Chemical Peel - This technique is often used as part of antiaging skin care treatment. Chemicals such as Alphahydroxy acids (Glycolic and Lactic Acids) or Phenol are applied to the skin. The top layers of the skin then blister and eventually peel off removing imperfections, damage and even wrinkles. Depending on the depth of the peel, several of these facial skincare treatments may be needed to obtain the desired effect.

Blue Light Therapy - This is an acne care treatment that assists in fixing the appearance of acne on the skin that has not responded to other treatments. Blue light is focused on the affected areas where it destroys the bacteria which is the root cause of acne.

Laser Skin Resurfacing - Like the chemical peel, this procedure uses a laser to remove the outer layers of the skin and is widely used in aging skin care. The new skin cells that are formed tend to be less affected by pigmentation problems and sun damage. Spot removal is also available through the use of the Fraxel Laser, a device that penetrates the skin using tiny columns of laser light to dissolve skin imperfections.

Microdermabrasion - this technique is primarily used to treat age spots and as an acne facial treatment to remove scarring. Facial skin care treatment with this procedure can be done quickly and involves using an abrasive (crystals) on the surface of the skin where they are then pushed around by rotating brushes to deeply exfoliate the skin.

Photodynamic Therapy - Also known as PDT, this is another treatment used in acne prevention and removing associated lesions from the skin. Focused light is used to target acne bacteria. These procedures often involve pre-treating the skin with microdermabrasion. An acid solution usually follows before the light is applied to the skin which helps to enhance its effectiveness.

Plasma Skin Regeneration - Instead of using a laster to treat the skin, plasma made of nitrogen is directly applied and causes the heat below the surface of the skin. Facial skin care treatment with plasma can have a significant impact on pigmentation, reducing wrinkles, skin tone and skin texture. One of the bigger benefits to this facial skin care application is that it usually requires little to no recuperation as is the case with lasers, peels and microdermabrasion.

These procedures should be considered only when other approaches (such as using facial skin care products) have proven ineffective.

Organic Tip

Treating age spots and other discolorations can be done naturally using lemon juice combined with yogurt and applied to the face for 20 mins once a day for approximately 3 weeks.
